Behavior Consultation

"Separation Anxiety" "Dominance" "Aggression" "Fear" & "Dog Aggression" are all terms commonly used yet rarely understood.  If you are dealing with one of these behaviors at home, or are concerned that one may be developing, learn how to take immediate and appropriate action. Very often simple exercises at the beginning of a behavior issue can prevent chronic misbehavior or resolve unsafe responses.

Karlene Bonnes, a Cornell University graduate, specializes in animal behavior & will evaluate, assess your pet’s specific needs. Then will design an individualized program for you and your family.

We offer in home behavior consultations for dogs, cats,
and multiple pet households.

Private Lessons

If your schedule does not fit our class times, or you prefer a more individualized program, we offer private lessons in home or at one of our training locations. We will address all basic or intermediate commands (sit, down, stay, come & heel on or off leash) or other issues related to obedience. Many clients prefer this if their pet has difficulty riding in the car, or if you have a multiple pet household.

Board & Train

The board and train program is an intensive training program uniquely designed for your pet. Whether you need to address a specific behavior issue or your dog simply needs to learn basic obedience commands, our 2-3 week board and train program provides consistency, socialization and varied work environments. While boarded in a home environment, your dog will be trained individually and attend group obedience classes. Upon completion of the training program we will demonstrate the skills your dog has learned and teach you the techniques to maintain them.

The board and train program is also available for shorter periods of time to customers who wish their dog to receive a more intensive level of work.  Instead of just "boarding" your dog for a long weekend or vacation we can ensure your dog maintains or even advances his level of obedience.

Exercise & Training

Long work hours and family demands often leave little time for appropriate exercise let alone training. Now you can have the best of both worlds. Let us exercise your dog and teach him the commands that make living with him a pleasure instead of a chore. We will cover the sit, stay, come, down, and heel. A recommended minimum of 2 visits per week is suggested to maintain commands.

Pet Selection

Don’t chose a pet only to discover its needs and
temperament don’t fit your lifestyle. Arrange a home
consultation to determine what type of pet, from size to
species, would be the best addition to your family. If you
locate a pet, we will also temperament test them prior to
adoption to evaluate their compatibility with your
family and lifestyle.

Dog Classes

Puppy Kindergarten

Eliminate problem behaviors before they begin.  Learn to understand your dog’s personality, and how to respond with an appropriate level of correction and/or praise in an interactive and safe setting. This class will focus on the proper socialization between puppies and their human counterparts. These skills will also be incorporated with ways to handle house training, nipping, jumping, chewing, etc.

Basic Obedience

Develop a mutual respect between you and your dog.   Learn to use this relationship to master basic obedience commands, such as sit, stay, down, come, heel and stand.  We use soft, effective training methods, which enable the dog to trust and respect their family.  We emphasize verbal praise over a food reward to ensure that your dog is willing to work any time, any where. This class also includes a discussion which covers behaviors such as; dominance, nipping, chewing, jumping, digging, etc.

Intermediate Level I Obedience

This class will begin to develop your dog into the dog you can take anywhere.  Longer down and stay commands for those picnics in the park, heeling off leash, social greetings that teach your dog proper introductions to new human and canine friends all give you and your dog more freedom without loss of control.

Intermediate Level II Obedience

Hone those off leash skills to new levels. This class is only open to those who have successfully completed Level I, can heel off leash for at least 1 minute, and will maintain the stay command even when favorite toys and friends bounce by. All commands will be practiced off leash with a variety of distractions including multiple dogs, people and toys.  Exercises are taught with the ultimate goal being a leash free dog.

Small Breed Classes

Our small breed classes are designed for dogs 25 lbs and under.  Learn correction and leash techniques specific to the issues for small breeds, while still learning our class curriculum.  Small breed classes offer a comfortable, social, and safe environment for even the smallest of dogs.

Canine Good Citizen

This AKC recognized program tests and teaches appropriate canine behavior in simulated everyday situations. Your dog will learn how to greet strangers politely, without jumping or barking, allow a new acquaintance to handle and groom them without distress, and to greet other canines socially and safely. We identify and reward dogs that have the training and demeanor to be community members in good standing, as well as a reliable family member. All dogs passing the CGC test receive a certificate from AKC, and are recorded in the Canine Good Citizen Archive. CGC is a valuable certification recognized by many agencies such as, dog parks, insurance companies, and rental housing.

Rally

Do you want to work with your dog in a challenging partnership? Rally is a great combination of CGC, Obedience, and Agility. Forty different obedience moves are combined at a brisk pace, with positive attitude and enthusiasm in performance. Courses are varied with combinations of sits, turns, and changes of pace. AKC offers Rally titles for successful completion of each the three skill levels offered. Rally will improve your dogs focus and precision through a fun and challenging course curriculum.

Jumping

Challenge and inspire your dog beyond the basics of obedience class.  Develop eye contact, energy, and enhance your working relationship as you learn to safely and skillfully negotiate a course of jumps designed specifically for dogs.  Proper form and technique will be taught to make this class successful and minimize risk of injury.
