We offer a variety of group dog obedience classes at several convenient locations in the Rochester, NY area - including Monroe, Genesee, and Orleans counties.

Puppy Kindergarten

Eliminate problem behaviors before they begin. Learn to understand your dog’s developing personality and respond with an appropriate level of correction and/or praise in an interactive and safe setting. This class focuses on the proper socialization between puppies and their human and puppy counterparts. These skills will apply to handling house training, nipping, jumping, chewing, etc..

First Class: Proof of vaccinations required: Distemper series and Kennel Cough.

Basic Obedience

Develop a mutual respect between you and your dog and learn to use this relationship to master basic obedience commands such as sit, stay, down, come, heel, and stand. We practice balanced training methods, which promote trust and respect between your pet and your family. We emphasize verbal praise over a food reward to ensure that your dog is willing and able to work anytime, anywhere. This class also covers how to understand your dog's body language and teaches you how to manage basic dog behaviors including: nipping, house training, chewing, jumping, digging, and barking.

First Class: NO DOGS.

Proof of vaccinations required: Distemper Series, Kennel Cough, and Rabies.

Intermediate Level I Obedience

This class will transform your dog into the dog you can take anywhere. The curriculum will cover down and stay commands with increased time periods for those picnics in the park, heeling off leash, and proper etiquette when greeting new human and canine friends. This class will give you and your dog more freedom in social settings without loss of control.

First Class: Proof of vaccinations required: Distemper Series, Kennel Cough, and Rabies.

Duration: 6 Weeks

Intermediate Level II Obedience

Bring those off leash skills to new levels. This class is only open to dogs who have successfully mastered Intermediate Level I skills, can heel off leash for at least one minute, and will maintain the stay command even when their favorite toys and friends bounce by. All commands will be practiced off leash with a variety of distractions including: multiple off leash dogs simultaneously coming to their owners, people approaching and handling your dog during distanced commands, and toys vying for your dog's attention. Exercises are taught with the ultimate goal of your dog being leash-free.

First Class: Proof of vaccinations required: Distemper Series, Kennel Cough, and Rabies.

Duration: 6 Weeks

Small Breed Classes

Small breed classes offer a comfortable, social, and safe environment for even the smallest of dogs. First Class: NO DOGS.

Canine Good Citizen

This certification program tests canine behavior in utilizing simulated everyday situations. Your dog will learn how to greet strangers politely, without jumping or barking, allow a new acquaintance to handle and groom them without distress, as well as be able to greet other canines politely. We train and reward dogs that master positive demeanors, which make them reliable family and community members in good standing. All dogs passing the CGC test receive a certificate from the American Kennel Club, and are recorded in the Canine Good Citizen Archive. This is a valuable certification recognized by many agencies such as: dog parks, insurance companies, and rental housing.

First Class: Proof of vaccinations required: Kennel Cough, Distemper Series, and Rabies.

Rally

Improve your partnership with your dog in the mentally stimulating and fun class. Rally is a great way to incorporate obedience commands into synchronized movements between owners and their canine counterparts. Forty different obedience moves are utilized in multiple courses designed to improve you and your dog's skill level. The AKC offers Rally titles for successful completion of each the three skill levels offered. This class will improve your dog's focus and precision through a fun and challenging course curriculum. Completion of Basic and Intermediate Obedience Classes are recommended prior to enrollment in this course.

Jumping

Challenge and inspire you and your dog's athletic side beyond the basics of obedience class. Develop eye contact, working drive, and enhance your bond with your dog as you both learn to safely and skillfully navigate a course of jumps designed specifically for dogs. Proper form and technique will be taught to make this class successful and minimize the risk of injury. Sneakers are highly recommended for this course.

Dog Aggression

Learn techniques on desensitizing your dog aggressive dog to other canines. We will teach you to recognize and understand body language exhibited by your dog and/or an unknown dog that could trigger a reaction from either party. We also teach techniques on regaining control of your dog once they have already become reactive. This class is limited to 5 participants.

Prerequisite: Your dog should be able to sit, lay down, and stay with distractions before joining this class.

First Class: No Dogs

Proof of vaccinations required: Kennel Cough, Distemper Series, and Rabies.

Hound Happy Hour

Now your dog has the opportunity to exercise and socialize in a safe, monitored environment with other friendly dogs. Hound Happy Hour is open to all socialized and properly vaccinated canines who love to play. Give yourself a break and your dog an hour he will truly appreciate.

First Class: Proof of vaccinations required: Kennel Cough, Distemper Series, and Rabies

$10 fee per session
